kasie, the developments here coming constantly. not surprising from susan collins, but it is important. right? that s right, hallie. we were anticipating this is what she is going to say. significant. she is now on the record saying she is going to continue to oppose what republicans have been trying to do in repealing and replacing and now just repealing obamacare. she came out and said, look, i m going to be a no on that vote to open debate on the house bill. this is mcconnell s plan to get to a repeal only vote. that the vote the president has been calling for and rand paul calling for. that is our first official no vote. we spoke to a number of moderate senators and people on the fence. so far most have been noncommittal. rob portman wouldn t say one way or the other how to vote. allowing the process to start to unfold, but he did say he doesn t support the house bill. and that things have changed since 2015 when they first,er
worry about replacing later. what do you see happening when they get back on monday? boy, you know, it s really hard to say. there doesn t seem to be a it s hard to see where the momentum is towards them reaching an agreement, but, you know, it s easy to forget, too, when the house was trying to negotiate this deal, was trying to pass its own health care legislation, they had to pull it down from a vote as well, and for a long time they didn t seem like they were ever going to be able to reach that compromise. they were in the same place that the senate is now. the house managed to reach that compromise, that senate majority is a lot narrower for republicans than the house majority is, so whether or not they can actually get there, it s going to be even a tinier needle to have to thread, but, you know, they ve been running on this for years now. it s hard for me personally to imagine that they don t find a way either by passing repeal and replace together or by separating the two p
road. so politically, we talked to mitch mcconnell, i spoke with him several months ago about the beginning of this process, and i said what do you want in this bill? so i mean he wants something that can get past. it is unlikely to be perfect, but all these people ran on passing repeal and replacement of obamacare, which by the way, as you have well documented over the years so beautifully, it isn t going to survive give it s not fixed, which makes me wonder what chuck schumer is exactly getting at here. melissa: he is on another planet. beginning with obamacare, so i want to put this to the same test, they are trying to put these very expensive things in the same pool. so they outline how much they re going to spend and where they re going to put them, i have heard other people say there is not enough money, they are going to have to do something i don t know if we can know if the math is there.
