our clients are looking for alternatives. looking for better solutions, whether that is utilizing different ports, whether that is utilizing different trucking companies, whether that is utilizing different types of warehousing services that can help them manage the costs. air is faster but more expensive. airbus this week said they were converting passenger planes to cargo haulers because of demand. we re here. we have capacity. other part as cross america have space as well. but the ships here and others on the way were booked months ago. it s kinds of a perfect storm with the record ships coming in in l.a. and long beach. record volume. really worker shortages and problems throughout the chain. now, in the last few minutes, the ports of l.a. and long beach have set a new record of 167 ships in port or offshore and 30
everything, right? you see store shelves that are empty. you see goods that you re buying, the packages are getting smaller, prices are going up. listen to the executive director of the port of los angeles about the backlog of ships. what this is is a wake-up call for all of us in this industry to realize you can t operate with the motto of yesterday. port is backed up. the truckers are backed up. everyone is backed up. it is a big problem. and this is because the economy crashed. think about it, all this cargo that used to fly around in the belly of passenger planes, passenger travel stopped. there are backlogs for months and months, and glitches in supply chain where people can t get the goods they need to make their products. sneakers, for example, a third wave of coronavirus in vietnam, and you saw clothing, sneakers, purses, all of these things you can t get for christmas by some of these brands because the factories closed, they don t have the goods. there will be a backlog
way crews can board the aircraft and clear any potential threats. apparently, the passengers noticed that there was a fellow passenger who was showing some kind of erratic behavior and so the result was that was relayed to the crews and to the ground. the result was a massive mobilization of authorities. we saw fire crews and police in and around the area there as they essentially waited for it to land then shortly after, that s when the passengers were asked to pretty much evacuate the plane so they could make sure there was no threat. now the authorities that are investigating this right now telling us that again, nobody was hurt. they re in the process of speaking to the passenger that was exhibiting this behavior. they re not going into great detail as to what it was. but as you can imagine, these incidents are not taken lightly. especially aboard these passenger planes. again, it did land safely here at laguardia airport. authorities now in the process of speaking to this individu
