PHUKET: Chalermsak Maneesri has been confirmed as the new Mayor of Patong following formal confirmation of the Mar 28 municipality election results yesterday (Apr 28).

The Phuket office of the Election Commission of Thailand (PEC) posted the formal notices confirming the election of mayors and councillors at the 12 municipalities in Phuket yesterday afternoon (Apr 28).

PHUKET: The Phuket office of the Election Commission of Thailand (PEC) has confirmed that all mayors and municipal councillors in Phuket were discharged from their official duties today (Feb 1) ahead of the municipal election to be held on Mar 28.

“The Chief Administrative Officer (Palad) at each municipality will now act as the temporary municipal chief in place of mayors,” PEC Director-General Passakon Siripakayapon told

“The other officers can work normally,” he added.

PHUKET: Nearly a month after the Phuket Provincial Administration Organisation (PPAO, or OrBorJor) presidential election was held on Dec 20, Rewat Areerob has yet to take office due to a complaint filed over the election.

The Phuket office of the Election Commission of Thailand (PEC) declared Mr Rewat the winner of the election on Dec 21, confirming that he had secured 83,144 votes.
Mr Rewat had bested second-placed contender Jirayut Songyot, who secured 50,914 votes, the PEC reported at the time.

PHUKET: Candidates looking to contest the upcoming local municipal elections can register from Feb 8, the Phuket office of the Election Commission of Thailand (PEC) has confirmed.

Registration for candidates will be open Feb 8-12, PEC Director Passakon Siripakayapon told The Phuket News.
During the registration week, candidates will be able to register to contest seats on local councils of the 12 municipalities in Phuket, or for the position of mayor where available, he explained.
