With the city of San Diego facing a lengthy backlog of darkened streetlights in several communities along with seven vacant engineer positions, San Diego Gas & Electric Co. is partnering with the city to try to expedite a fix.
Though electrical crews “are pretty motivated” to fix La Jolla Shores' darkened streetlights, La Jolla is full of old wiring that is often the problem instead of burned-out bulbs, San Diego City Councilman Joe LaCava told the La Jolla Shores Association.
The city of San Diego recently has been touting that its response time to fix broken streetlights has declined from 288 days to 268 days. But for some La Jolla residents, that's of little comfort.
