SIBU: Residents in the urban area here now face a very high risk of contracting Covid-19, says Dr Annuar Rapaee.
The district Divisional Disaster Management Committee coordinator said this can be seen in daily data showing that areas covered by the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) are recording an increase in cases.
Of the 95 cases in the Sibu district on Saturday (April 17), 65 of them were reported in the SMC area. Another 13 were recorded in Sibu Jaya and 17 more were recorded in the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) area, ” said Dr Annuar.
He added in a Facebook live-stream on Saturday that the total number of cases in the SMC area on Friday (April 16) was 57.

Sibu Pasai cluster sparked by interstate traveller who quarantined at home

COVID-19 | The 2,363 cases detected among longhouse residents and healthcare workers in Sibu, Sarawak originated from an interstate traveller who underwent home quarantine.
Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah shared details about the Pasai Siong cluster in a press conference this evening.
The index case was someone who travelled from Johor to Sarawak due to the death of her father.

SIBU: The Armed Forces has sent six officers and 120 volunteers to help front-liners in Sibu in the fight against Covid-19, and they will be in the area until Feb 14.
Third Infantry Brigade Commander Brigadier General Dato Azhar Ahmad said in a statement that the group from Regiment 511 of the Territorial Army from Kuching Ria Camp arrived at the Rajang Security Area Command (Rascom) camp on Feb 4 where they were received by 9th Brigade Infantry Chief of Staff Lt Kol Anuar Ahmad.
They were given a briefing by Lt Kol Annuar on Ops Penawar and were also told to maintain a high standard of discipline, including abiding by the SOP.
