Opposing Democratic and Republican Party Agendas
The United States has long functioned largely as a two-party nation with smaller and less influential secondary parties.
While the Democratic and Republican parties have existed as the two major parties for much of U.S. history – with changing perspectives and political philosophies over time – other parties or blocs have organized under the banner of the Whigs, Federalists, Free Soil, American or Know Nothings, Unionists, Libertarians, Green, Socialist Workers, People’s Party, Progressive or Bull Moose, and Youth International.
OPINION: Letters to the Editor
Wicked Local
To the Editor:
Shrewsbury needs an operational override. Without this revenue, class sizes will skyrocket, school libraries will close, and programming will be cut. Our community is counting on us.
As a fourth generation life-long resident, I cannot dismantle our basic services. We must refuse to cut Shrewsbury’s safety and education, when we are only contributing at the bottom 11% per pupil, while our income is in the top 20%.
Did you know Shrewsbury has only passed one operational override? Every single vote matters. Please join me in voting yes for our town on May 4!

• Giving every American access to reliable and affordable broadband internet service?
• Making sure that America’s electric grid is reliable so there’s not a repeat of the debacle in Texas?

Maybe Joe Manchin really
is serious about the filibuster and more serious than we think. Manchin talked about protecting the filibuster before the election, promising not to let Democrats do “crazy stuff” if they won control of the Senate. That was a selling card in the Georgia runoffs, helping to make voters there more comfortable with Democrats rather than with “stop the steal”-obsessed Republicans. But many wondered just how firmly Manchin would stick to the principle of regular order when push came to shove on Capitol Hill.
Last night, Manchin told CNN that it was when push came to shove
