The Mayor of Clare is calling on the Minister for Transport to reverse the proposed ban on the burning of turf, peat or wood in heating homes.
Green Party Leader Eamon Ryan called for the move earlier this year, prompting a backlash from some in rural communities over the move.
There are are also attempts to initiate a nationwide ban on the sale and burning of smoky coal, which Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard claims is still being burnt in parts of Ennis.

Fears have been expressed that a planned major road for North Limerick and South East Clare could be put on hold for years.
Transport Minister and Green Party Leader Minister Eamon Ryan has yet to approve the tender for the Northern Distributor Road project, even though it’s substantially ready to go.

He is considering altering the plans to include a rail link in conjunction with the development, but this would mean going back to the drawing board and recommencing the planning process.
It’s feared the Northern Distributor Road project may have to begin its planning process all over again if the Minister for Transport doesn’t sign its tender.
Clare’s Fine Gael TD says the Minister for Transport needs to ‘step up to the plate’ and sign off on the Northern Distributor Road.
Green Party Leader Eamon Ryan has stalled on approving the tender for the road, as he considers a local rail link in conjunction with the project.
Approximately €19 million has been spent so far on the Coonagh to Knockalisheen road, which will link Clare to the University of Limerick.

Deputy Joe Carey says the wait for the project has been long enough.
Statement from the Department of Transport
Minister Ryan is carefully considering this project in the light of the overall development needs of Limerick and Shannon, and as part of the review of the National Development Plan. Roads cannot be considered in isolation but should be part of overall planning and transport strategy. Limerick and Moyross in particular deserve high quality connectivity that goes beyond roads, to include active travel and public transport.
