The president pro tempore the majority leader is recognized. Majority leader is recognized. The Party Leaders recognize. I asked that they senate observed the moment of silence for Dianne Feinstein. [silence] [silence] madam president. The majority leader. Madam president , first madam president pro tim from the United States senate, earlier this morning we lost a giant in the senate. Senator Dianne Feinstein was among one of the most amazing people to ever grace the senate, whoever graced the country. She had so many amazing, wonderful qualities wrapped up in one incredible human being. She was smart. She was strong, she was brave, she was compassionate. But maybe the trait that stood out most of all was her amazing integrity. Her integrity was a diamond. Heard integrity shone like a beacon across the senate and across the country for all to see and a hopefully emulate. Im sorry about the presentation updates not having updated, but ill just go by my previous slides as a guide, but i did want to highlight that some of the critiques of our previous studies. So what can we learn from real world experiences . I think in medicine, we the Gold Standard for bringing in intervention for a drug to the public is a controlled human clinical trial, and that wouldnt be ethical with a tazer because its difficult to replicate the real world situations, so in lieu of that, we can perform epidemilogical studies in terms of real world use, does it result in increased sudden death . Does it result in fewer officer injuries or fewer suspect injuries, and our study in 2009 look looked at that by looking at 500,000 arrests. We did find an initial spike in sudden death after the first year. That was midgated after the first year down to 50 higher but still higher than the baseline. We found an increase in officer shootings in that first year, and we found no difference in
