Late last month, the Vermont Arts Council announced its 22 Creation Grant recipients of the year. Among them is longtime Colchester resident and multimedia artist Erika Senft Miller.
The retrospective exhibition of Robert Motherwell’s paintings currently at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is exhilarating. I came away with the sense that he has lived in totality, and that an infinite reservoir of awareness is in service for him at the moment of creation.
The retrospective at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, on view until September 17th, offers ample opportunities to consider, and reassess, Motherwell’s painted oeuvre through almost sixty well-chosen examples. Curated by Susan Davidson, who as a longtime curator at the Guggenheim Museum in New York organized a 2013 exhibition on Motherwell’s early collages, it will subsequently travel to the Kunstforum Wien, Austria.
