Copperas Cove ISD announces its employees of the year

Copperas Cove High School’s Sandra Perry is the CCISD Secondary Teacher of the Year. Perry, a registered nurse, has been teaching 22 years and is the head of the Career/Technology Education Department and also serves as the mentor coordinator for experienced teachers who are mentoring teachers new to the education field and the school district. In the classroom, Perry provides hands-on learning so that students receive real-world experience they will need to be successful in the nursing and/or pharmacy industry. Clements/Parsons Elementary School bilingual kindergarten teacher Lessly Titas is the CCISD Elementary Teacher of the Year. Titas has been teaching six years and serves as a mentor to new bilingual teachers. Having been a bilingual student herself, Titas understands the challenges her bilingual students face, ensuring that her students’ educational and emotional needs are met. Titas proactively gathers data and work samples and is always monitoring and adjusting

Spinning wheels: Cub Scouts race handmade cars

VFW Post 8577 sponsors Pack 251. The Pinewood Derby is a race of handmade cars down a sloped track, propelled only by gravity. The first Pinewood Derby was held May 15, 1953, in Manhattan Beach, California, according to Scout Life magazine. Boy Scouts of America first published about the event in a BSA publication in a 1954 issue of Boys’ Life magazine. Since then, many Cub Scout packs have put the event on their annual calendars. In Copperas Cove, Mason Juhan has been with the Cub Scouts for two years and was this year’s winner for his entire pack and overall winner of the Pinewood Derby 2021.
