The Post-Graduate Students Union (PGSU), Gauhati University vehemently criticizing the decision underlined that they will not accept the notice at any cost. They appealed to the State government to decide on reappointing the teachers. PGSU president Ullah Uddipta Borah said, The decision should be withdrawn until the process to fill the vacant posts with permanent teachers is not completed. Moreover, there are many new departments where there is a need to create teachers posts. The contractual teachers should be allowed to continue their services.

GUWAHATI: Students of Gauhati University (GU) could be in trouble after the university authority terminated the jobs of all contractual teachers, numbering around 45 to 50, amid the pandemic. Gauhati University has about 5,000 post-graduate students, while 350 colleges under GU have over 2.5 lakh students Guwahati: Giving respite to about 3 lakh students, the Gauhati University (GU) on Friday announced that for the first time in its history, all its examinations will be conducted via open-book system in the online mode only in view of the surge in Covid-19 cases. Under the open-boo k system, students will be able to refer books, notes and other study materials to answer the questions. According to the latest notification issued by the university’s registrar, Hemanta Kumar Nath, post-graduate examinations will begin from June 1 and will be completed by June 15 while undergraduate exams will start from the second week of June.
