McGeachin campaign website, since taken down, says she's running for governor | News

BOISE — A website with campaign information and videos of Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin, which was taken down Tuesday evening after the Idaho Capital Sun inquired about it, said the longtime Republican is running for governor in the GOP’s May 2022 primary. If she wins the primary, she’ll run in the Nov. 8, 2022, general election. McGeachin’s main campaign website posted a splash page on Monday with information about three press conferences to be held Wednesday across the state for an “important political announcement about the future of the state” — the first at 10 a.m. at the Downtown Event Center in Idaho Falls, the second at 2 p.m. on the steps of the Idaho State Capitol, and the last at 5:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time at Candlelight Christian Fellowship in Coeur d’Alene.

Idaho Lt. Gov. McGeachin Spars With Top Senate Republican Over Chamber Access

“Such retaliation is beneath the dignity of your office,” Macomber wrote. All of these factors, he wrote, “appear to be nothing but political punishment for perceived slights, unless they are overt discrimination against our first female Lieutenant Governor.” He then asked to schedule a meeting to further discuss her budget, while saying he’s sure Winder would want to avoid the perception of this alleged feud being “a good example of how adults work together to address political issues in the State of Idaho.” Winder wrote back directly to McGeachin on April 21, saying in his experience, “adults set a good example when they calmly, directly address concerns they may have with other persons.”

Lt. Gov. McGeachin blasts lawmakers after budget cut

Lt. Gov. McGeachin blasts lawmakers after budget cut Betsy Z. Russell . The Legislature’s joint budget committee on Tuesday sliced a long-vacant full-time position and $17,400 out of Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin’s budget for next year, after she told the panel at a January budget hearing that it was up to lawmakers whether the position stayed in her budget or not. The move sparked protest from Rep. Ron Nate, R-Rexburg, who said the position has since been filled and that his alternate budget motion, to keep the funding and the position in the budget, “would not require firing anyone.” According to state records, the lieutenant governor’s office hired a part-time administrative assistant on Feb. 22, one of two shown in her office, and also still continued to pay for a contract with Idaho Freedom Foundation analyst Parrish Miller for information technology services at $800 a month. The most recent payments to Miller, two for $800 each, were made Feb. 11, ac
