The damaged trees A DUDLEY Council chief has hit out at mindless vandals who attacked new trees days after they were planted at a Halesowen park. Four new trees were snapped off and grass was churned up by an off-road biker at Hope Street park - leading to calls for CCTV and police patrols by angry residents and councillors. Councillor Karen Shakespeare, Dudley Council s cabinet member for environmental, highways and street services, responded to calls for action over the vandalism and hit out at the selfish individuals involved. She said she hopes the trees, which the council planted, will regrow despite the damage.
FOUR new trees were snapped off and grass was churned up by an off-road biker in acts of mindless vandalism at a Halesowen park - leading to calls for action. The trees at Hope Street Park were deliberately destroyed around January 8 - just days after they were planted by Dudley Council - leaving councillors and residents angry and upset. Then the next day a motorbike drove all over the grass and left mud all over the children s play area. Locals say the park is also used by drug dealers and anti-social youths and is victim to fly-tipping. Councillors Hilary Bills and Parmjit Sahota, who are looking to set up a friends group, have contacted Dudley Council and have asked the local policing team to step up patrols in the area.
HALESOWEN residents are getting a special thank you for coming together during a tough 2020 – a special Happy New Year card from two Dudley councillors And the card will of course wish everyone a much happier 2021 than the year we have just gone through. The card comes from councillors Hilary Bills and Parmjit Sahota who suddenly had the bright idea during one of those virtual meetings that became the new norm of 2020. Because Dudley Council were holding meetings on TEAMS they were not spending the allowance they got for travelling to and from the Council House. So they saved up the savings and commissioned local artist Maisie Stokes, founder of Black Country Cards based on cartoon figures.
