MPs sign up to Clubhouse app despite Chinese security concerns

MPs are flocking to an invite-only social network that is grappling with moderating hate speech and facing concerns over its security.
Clubhouse, an audio-only social network where users can listen in on chats with Silicon Valley personalities, has seen a surge in popularity in the UK.
The app allows users to listen to podcast-like chats where they can be invited to ask questions or join into conversations. It has become popular with Silicon Valley glitterati such as Elon Musk and features Mark Zuckerberg and billionaire Silicon Valley investors among its users.

The Queen s New Year honours list includes 39 in Essex.
Five were awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire), 19 awarded MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) and 10 awarded the BEM (Medallist of the Order of the British Empire). Five Essex police officers were awarded the Queen’s Police Medal.
They include:
Benjamin Josef Cowell, Newport - Director General, Historic Houses Association. OBE for services to cultural heritage, particularly during the Covid-19 response.
David Michael Smith, Saffron Walden - Deputy Managing Director, Parliamentary Digital Service. OBE for services to Parliament, particularly during the Covid-19 response.

The New Year Honours List 2021 was notable for its recognition of workers in the public and private sectors who went the extra mile during the Covid-19 public health pandemic.
These include digital and data professionals working for supermarket chain Asda. Daniel Owens, online grocery development manager at Asda Stores, was awarded an MBE for “services to retail customers during the Covid-19 Response”, as was Connor Wilkinson, head of e-commerce data at Asda.

NSPCC Chief Executive Peter Wanless receives a Knighthood
Peter Thomas Wanless, Chief Executive Officer, NSPCC receives a Knighthood for services to Children, to Young People and to the Charitable Sector.
The 56-year-old, who lives near Sevenoaks, has been the nationwide charity s boss since 2013 and previously held a variety of posts at the HM Treasury.
