At least thirty Nigerian mafia members have been arrested by the police in 14 provinces in Italy.
The police said the head of one of the Nigerian mafiaâs biggest gangs was arrested in the operation, adding that it has âapprehended the leader of a major organisation.â
The operation, Black Axe, was targeted at Italyâs Nigerian mafia and stems from a probe in LâAquila, the capital of the Abruzzo region, Italian news agency ANSA reported on Monday.
According to the police, those arrested have been charged with mafia association, drug trafficking, illegal immigration, prostitution, âromantic fraudâ, Internet fraud and money laundering.
