The National Assembly and the Senate yesterday simultaneously introduced the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill 2020 amid a push to hasten the process ahead of the planned June referendum.
Joint committees in the two Houses were directed to conduct public participation and report back within three weeks.
The tabling of the Bill followed its overwhelming approval by 43 county assemblies against the mandatory 24.

MPs investigating the purchase of the Sh.7.8 billion Covid-19-related materials by Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa) are reading mischief in claims of errors in an audit on some of the payments.
An Auditor General’s special report had indicated that Shop N Buy Company received Sh970 million while Nanopay was paid Sh340 million.
But the Auditor General’s office now claims an error in its report saying Nanopay only received Sh34 million. It did not immediately provide details of the errors in payments to Shop N Buy.

It all started when the PIC chair and Mvita MP Nassir Abdullswamad Sheriff questioned whether she was speaking on behalf of the individual who went to Kemsa to represent Kilig and secured the deal.
“I’m sorry honourable; have you established that there was someone who went to Kemsa? You need to make it clear,” she said.
At this point, it was clear that the committee members had encountered a difficult witness.
“It’s clear the witness is not willing to tell us the truth. She needs to answer all the questions as asked,” said Kaloleni MP Paul Katana.
But Onyango argued that she was answering the questions to the best of her knowledge. “I can feel the frustrations from the members. I am here for Kilig and what the company did is all I am telling you,” she told the committee.
