Parkview Health Network, Lutheran Health Network and other area hospitals announced their plans to begin their vaccination programs for COVID-19 as soon as the first version receives FDA emergency authorization authorization.
On Wednesday, the Indiana State Department of Health again confirmed that Parkview Health would be among the first five hospitals in Indiana to receive the Pfizer vaccine, which must be stored at super-cold temperatures.
The vaccine news is welcome amid continued rising evidence of community spread of the illness, which is infecting Hoosiers at an increasing rate.
In northeast Indiana, there were nine new deaths reported outside of Allen County from COVID-19 on Wednesday. Allen County reported 16 new deaths, but attributed the sharp increase in number to a lag in reporting over recent days.
