Watch now: Decatur s Anne Lloyd Gallery displaying Cuban artist s work

DECATUR — Studying the artworks of Erica Entrop and her exhibit titled “Voyeur” is a thought-provoking activity. Beginning April 9, Entrop’s exhibit of paintings and textiles featuring people and characters will be on display at the Madden Arts Center’s Anne Lloyd Gallery throughout April. Depending on the COVID-19 restrictions, a tentative date for the First Friday Gallery Walk is from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 9. According to Anne Lloyd Gallery Coordinator Jami Fawley, one of the featured series will exhibit images of modern people on a modern subway. “Sometimes just one person and sometimes a lot of people crowded into that small space,” she said.

Old materials for creating art is new again at downtown Decatur exhibit

DECATUR — Artistic creations are not limited to one medium. Chicago artist Dan Addington’s paintings, using wax and other pigments, will be featured through his exhibit Memory and Meaning in the downtown Anne Lloyd Gallery throughout March. “There is a beautiful sense of light,” he said about his creations. Since wax is translucent, the process allows for various layering techniques. “How much pigment you add to it is going to determine how opaque the surface is,” Addington said. “If you just add a little bit of pigment, you can see the layer below and the color it was. The colors are mixing optically.”

Decatur art exhibit builds a world with Legos

DECATUR — Art and creativity can be found in various forms, including in a traditional children’s toy. The displays represent the creativity that happens in different ways and with a variety of different materials. With more than 10 builders, the exhibit will feature 3D and 2D Lego creations in various sizes, including tabletop displays and an 11-foot castle. The configurations are created from original designs and commercial kits. Organizers of the exhibit discussed a concept of creativity in non fine art ways. “We wondered about new ways we could inspire people to explore their creative sides,” said Jami Fawley, Decatur Area Arts Council Gallery Coordinator.
