mall, the parking lot cordoned off as investigators continue to work that scene. there are still dozens if not several hundred cars in that parking lot that is still cordnd off. we ve seen the outpouring of grief. you can see over my shoulder someone has brought out and setting up a memorial with crosses here just outside of the parking lot in the entrance into the outlet mall. and as you mentioned, you know, significant news in terms of the images that we ve been able to see and put together from this from what we ve seen from witnesses so far. there s so many questions as to exactly how all of this unfolded, the timeline of how it unfolded, but in our course of reporting and talking to witnesses there, many of the victims, we believe, were shot and killed near the h&m store inside the parking lot area, and that gunman was later taken down around the corner from where that happened. exactly what transpired in those
not several hundred cars there inside that parking lot. we have also been trying to piece together to give people a better understanding of how all this unfolded. you saw in that video where you see the dashcam video of the gunman arriving here at the scene. based on witness interviews we have done over the last two days of reporting on this, we can show you this map that shows a building that is essentially inside this parking lot area, it on stand-alone structure. you can see on this map the path that was taken by the gunman, around the northeastern corner of that building and then ending where he was shot and killed by an allen police officer. so that is kind of gives you a sense of just how long this lasted. several hundred yards this gunman was able to maneuver and through this parking lot and one witness told us that he saw the gunman pass by the store front that he was in, shooting deliberately at people in the parking lot.
you. all the stores face into a central parking lot area. so what we re seeing are the back side of some of the outlet stores. and the entrance to the stores are on the other side of the buildings there. everything is in this central congregated area. that s where people move through the open air outlet mall. the distance is rather long. you can see probably a good thousand yards to the other side, the north side of this outlet mall and this parking lot. we re talking about a rather large area. and there are shopping areas all around this outlet mall. a large scene. difficult to process. mix that in with the cars and the vast amount of people inside. you can imagine how chaotic it is with all that activity. one thing our law enforcement experts had noted is that they don t see a lot of ambulances.
department store and hid in the storage area in the back of the store where many of these people said they ve waited for more than an hour, while they wanted and sat there, really getting no information as to what was unfolding in the open air parking lot. and then those witnesses said, an hour, hour and a hatch later, law enforcement started coming through the stores and clearing those areas, and then they were walked out, told to walk out and to leave the parking lot area with their hands in the air. so, that is, you know, some incredible detail of what many of these witnesses game people who were at this mall today experienced in the moments after this chaotic shooting scene. ed, thank you so much for that reporting, live on the ground. i want to go to camilla brew nall, she s been helping us report this out. camilla, i m told that you also have some new sound? yeah, so, ed has been talking to people in his area, we have affiliates on the ground, as well, that have been talking
that outside of my window. to texas, panic at a basketball tournament after reports of a shooting that happened in the dallas suburb of manslaughter field, but there were no reports of shots fired. i know that when i go to events i am looking for the exits and if i were to hear something that i thought were gunshots and people were here reacting as i suppose all of us would. right. it is one of the stories that really captures sign of the times. police in mansfield say that there was an altercation that erupted at the basketball tournament at a fieldhouse there in manslaughter field. as you mentioned south of the dall dallas-fort worth area and the two men were removed from the fieldhouse and into the parking lot area when police say they one of the people went to their car and got a handgun. someone else in the parking lot
