Devised Theatre Showcase Presented At UFV In Abbotsford

No Strings Attached: creativity, puppets, and chaos

What to expect with this semester’s Devised Theatre Showcase UFV’s Devised Theatre Showcase, No Strings Attached, is the culmination of six students and one professor brainstorming, improvising, and just testing out ideas for a whole semester to create a show that asks: what is creativity and how can we each be more creative in our everyday lives? I interviewed two of the students from the THEA 452 class, Trevor Marsh and Stefan Boekhorst, to get an inside look on what it was like producing and acting in an online theatre production starring sock puppets. The devised theatre production was the product of two theatre courses. One of these was THEA 352: Devised Theatre I, which ran in the Fall 2020 semester and whose showcase revolved around the themes of Zoom, COVID-19, and climate change. This semester’s THEA 452: Devised Theatre II consists of the same six students and professor Parjad Sharifi, and it boasts a much more uplifting showcase than last semester. Devised theatre

UFV Theatre explores morality and resilience in Pariah

The Cascade Published 4 days ago The second theatre production of the 2020-21 season is Pariah (The Outcast), written by August Strindberg, and adapted and directed by Parjad Sharifi. Pariah is a one-act, two-woman play that will be performed over Zoom on March 24, 25, and 26 at 7 p.m. and March 27 at 2 p.m. Be sure to book your tickets in advance over the Eventbrite page to support your local theatre. The Cascade had the opportunity to talk with Sharifi, along with cast member Sarah Wack to discuss their experiences directing and starring in this virtual play. Sharifi chose the show because of its condensed length. Recognizing that viewers watching a play online get distracted easily, keeping the play under an hour was important. Sharifi also chose this play due to his interest in Strindberg’s playwriting, which was influenced by Nietzsche at the time
