Paraguayan Vice President Hugo Velázquez Friday announced in a radio interview that he would be resigning his job and stepping down from the presidential race after being added by the United States to the list of people significantly corrupt, where he joined former President Horacio Cartés.
In an operation in Bella vista Norte, Amambay department, the Paraguayan National Anti-Drug Secretariat (SENAD) destroyed more than 16 tons of marijuana. Agents found the drugs in a rural establishment of some 5 hectares that housed several narco-camps with marijuana crops, where they also seized 1.5 tons of the drug in the drying process.
Former Paraguayan President Horacio Cartés (2013-2018) has been added to the US State Department s black list of highly corrupt individuals, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said Friday in a statement.
