we know that putin and president trump will meet with one another at the g20 summit in a few weeks in argentina so we will have a chance to speak then. as you know, the president has other events scheduled for today. he is going to be at the american cemetery later on this afternoon. this follows his decision yesterday to not visit an american cemetery because of the weather. and so we are going have to see what happens when he gets out there. he is expected to make some remarks and we will be waiting for that here in the next few hours. jim acosta us for us there in par paris, thank you. joining us is a retired general marc hertling. general, thank you for being with us. i want to get your reaction, first and foremost, what you ve seen this morning from president trump and your reaction to the fact that he did not make it to that cemetery yesterday. there has been a lot of
par paris. he made remarks about meeting with the french people and that fighting together is a unity that should be preserved in a way this commemoration has sought to do to show there can be a coming together for peace. the president at the same time appeared to be the targets of some comments of his good friend on the world stage, french president emmanuel macron who, of course, was the host of this event and spoke extensively about the lessons of the great war that ended in 1918. here s part of what he had to say. he chose a word in particular, nationalism, something president trump has used at times to describe himself. here s emmanuel macron through a translator. translator: as the very opposite of the selfishness of a nation which only looks after its own interest because patriotism is exact t exact opposite of nationalism.
and i feel so story for all of those people that were mowed down. and it is just unbelievable. let s talk about the things, obviously one of the things they are looking at is this radical islamic terrorism. that s the first thing that comes to your mind in any situation like this similar to par paris. but it might not be. for exam, i heard what radical islamist goes in and targets one county executive meeting and doesn t shoot up the rest of the building and escapes. right, right. that s right. and doesn t have more carnage. you know, i guess we shouldn t be we shouldn t be a victim of what we see as the usual and past. but you re right. they ignored the people on the first floor and went up to the conference room. why would you do that if you re looking at all of the experience we ve had the last two decades,
pistol in the nearby apartment where a police raid took out the mastermind abdelhamid abaaoud. the french prosecutor says, in that apartment, abaaoud s second terror cell planning a new suicide bomb attack against par paris financial district. translator: in a stunning admission, the prosecutor said abaaoud was not only in paris during the attacks but his cell phone signal that night indicates he returned to the crime scenes at 0:28 p.m. as the concert hall was under siege, swarming with police. questions now about this purported cell phone video of the attacks posted by isis. was it from abaaoud s own phone? in the kays after the attacks, officials thought he was in syria, raising concerns about intelligence gaps with tracking foreign fighters. first thing from paris, these are people who included foreign fighters who were hardened, trained and experienced. reporter: in the capital city of belgium, the metro and schools remain closed, under the
thing for americans to hear. it is. and i think that s what americans are hearing and we have to look at how we re doing things and that s why we wanted to put a pause on the refugee situation. we also need to look in our visa waiver situation and see how we re managing that. it s a different time. the scenario we d like to see the world in is not a scenario that you d get and you have to adjust when it happens that way. when it comes to the refugee situation, we re a very caring country. we ve been pouring millions of dollars in to caring for refugees. we have to take a deep breath and assess the situation and make sure that we do things right. so the united states now says, congressman, that the u.s. is monitoring dozens of people who may be planning par paris-style copycat attacks. france and belgium were not aware of some of these attackers. are you worried about that, that we are not even looking at the right people? and are you confident that the fbi is truly able to monitor
