Many readers will have read with sadness of the passing of one of Greece's most renowned archaeologists – Professor Petros Themelis. He died recently while in the care of Kalamata hospital. He was aged 87. It was my privilege to have met him and to have seen some of his archaeological work in Greece.
Yesterday, Papaflessas Social Club Facebook announced that the laneway between 2 Gooch Street & 1 Raleigh Street, Thornbury, is now named "Kalamata Place".
The donation was both monetary and in form of art supplies for clients.
Papaflessas was represented by Community Relations & Development officer Carli Gotsis and Taksia Tsaganas (Youth Relations & Development).
During their visit, they met with AGAPI Care’s Chief Executive Officer, Mary Gakopoulos, taking the opportunity to discuss about the foundation’s cultural origins.
They were also briefed on initiatives underway to support AGAPI Care clients in celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Greek revolution.
Being a volunteer-run entity, Papaflessas Social Club walks the talk when it comes to servicing the Greek Australian and broader community.
The organisation’s activities include initiatives of social nature, raising awareness about Messinian and Hellene history and culture, and contributing to charity causes.
