New program targets Louisiana’s rural small businesses
Louisiana has launched a program to help grow small businesses in rural areas.
The LED Rural Entrepreneurship Initiative launched this week via a partnership of Louisiana Economic Development and the Michigan-based Edward Lowe Foundation.
Twelve companies that are considered “second-stage” are participating, according to a news release from LED. They typically have 10 to 99 employees and face common issues such as building a management team, sustaining growth and focusing on new opportunities, all of which can be challenging to accomplish in rural areas.
The program began this week with retreat-style meetings in a virtual setting, the release said. Using instruction and collaboration, the program seeks to understand specific challenges to growth and to identify solutions for scaling business growth. A Lafayette business has been honored for manufacturing quality and community service by Louisiana Economic Development.
ASH Industries, Inc. received a 2020 Lantern Award, which honors exemplary manufacturing companies across the state. The company is a leader in the rapid mold making and thermoplastic injection molding industry, creating everything from medical and surgical devices to structural components for laser light shows, according to their website.
Lantern Award winners demonstrate excellence in manufacturing and outstanding service to their communities through the involvement of their businesses and employees.
Because of COVID-19, no in-person awards will be staged this year. Instead, LED Secretary Don Pierson will deliver the awards to the recipients in January.
