According to the agriculture chief, the enactment of the law will pave way for the efficient use of the P100-billion coconut levy fund to uplift the livelihood of millions of farmers and sustain the development of the country’s coconut industry.
“On behalf of millions of coconut farmers and their families, we thank President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and our distinguished legislators for their continued guidance and strong support to revitalize the coconut industry,” Dar said.
Dar’s statement came after KILUS Magniniyog (KM), composed of thousands of coconut farmers, accepted the law’s passing “with deepest grief.”

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – One-hundred fifty supporters and members of the New People’s Army (NPA) from Rizal and Sto. Nino, this province, have surrendered to the military.
Northern Luzon Command chief Lt. Gen. Arnulfo Marcelo B. Burgos Jr. said Saturday that this is a strong indication of the communist terrorists’ nearing defeat in Northern Luzon.
The 150 surrenderers were composed of 72 Milisya ng Bayan from Barangays Masi, Bural, and San Juan in Rizal; 37 Milisya ng Bayan from Barangays Balagan and Calassitan in Sto. Nino; 19 members of the Pambansang Katipunan ng mga Magbubukid (PKM), nine members of Malayang Kilusan ng Bagong Kababaihan (Makibaka), and five members of the Kabataang Makabayan from Barangay Abariongan Uneg, Sto. Nino; and eight members of the Kabataang Makabayan from Barangay Calassitan, Sto. Nino.

The proposed Coconut Farmers and Industry Trust Fund Act or Coco Levy Act, which will pave the way for the release of the P100-billion coco levy fund, is just awaiting the signature of President Rodrigo Duterte.

This was after weeks since House decided to adopt Senate Bill (SB) 1396 as an amendment to House Bill (HB) 8136, which will both pave the way for the release of the coco levy fund the taxes imposed on coconut farmers by the Marcos administration and its cronies more than 40 years ago.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) will not withdraw its proposal for tariff reduction on pork and rice imports despite the growing number of groups – including farmers, raisers, advocates – opposing such a move.
When asked if he will consider the possibility of withdrawing DA’s proposal, Agriculture Secretary William Dar simply said “no”. He did not expound his answer.
He even said on Friday that he is hopeful that the Tariff Commission (TC) will soon approve it.
