Local groups work with county initiative in hard-hit areas
This is the second center of its kind in the county; the first one opened in February at the Palomar Medical Center Downtown in Escondido. Since then, it has served nearly 200 people, county officials said.
The opening was made possible after a collaboration between San Diego County and San Ysidro Health with federal, state and community partners.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized the use of combination monoclonal antibody therapies to treat mild-to-moderate COVID-19 in adult and pediatric patients.
It consists of laboratory-made proteins that mimic the immune system’s ability to fight viruses, officials explained. It is administered as a single dose intravenously; the entire process could last up to an hour.
