Emmetsburg, IA (KICD)– Palo Alto County will be getting a new law enforcement center after an overwhelming majority gave approval in a special election on Tuesday.
The unofficial results reported by the Palo Alto County Auditor’s Office show 1,245 voters cast a ballot in favor of erecting a new structure to replace the current Sheriff’s Office that has been in existence for more than a century with 176 voters saying no.
Age was not the only issue advocates for a new facility were looking at, but also a number of safety factors as well as ways the local law enforcement can increase the number of inmates housed in the county jail at any given time.
