PALMER â The spirit of Christmas rode through Palmer on Saturday and brightened up the faces of hundreds of people who had gathered downtown to witness the Colony Christmas festivities organized by the Palmer Chamber that culminated with the Colony Christmas parade and fireworks extravaganza that was sponsored by BP.
Riding atop a Palmer Fire and Rescue ladder looking down on streets lined with parade-watchers was none other than Santa Claus himself, along with over 40 parade floats that dazzled the crowds along Alaska Street in Palmer on Saturday. Despite the arrival of COVID-19 vaccinations to Alaska this week, restrictions for social distancing changed the way the Chamber delivered Colony Christmas events this winter after canceling the summer parade this year.
PALMER â Newly hired Palmer Fire and Rescue Chief Chad Cameron made a splashy arrival on Tuesday as he and Palmer firefighters sprayed a hose over a liner of plastic on the lawn of the Palmer Pioneer Home which has frozen into a community ice sheet. At a meeting of the Mat-Su Borough Assembly on Dec. 1, Department of Emergency Services Director Ken Barkley gave praise to Cameron entering as the new Chief of Palmer Fire and Rescue. Cameron replaces John McNutt as Chief.
âOne of the reasons I accepted the position here was because I knew there was a lot of good quality people here that really had a lot of community spirit,â said Cameron. âPalmer always felt like home.â
