SCV News | Monday COVID-19 Roundup: Public Health Reports Hospitalization Rates Increased in LA County; 28,956 Total Cases in SCV

Public Health reported a significant increase in the number of people hospitalized each day for COVID-19 illness. There are 528 people with COVID-19 currently hospitalized; last Monday, there were 372 people hospitalized and on June 15, there were 218 people hospitalized. Unfortunately, because cases have increased 700% since June 15, the County is now beginning to see corresponding increases in hospitalizations. Test positivity increased 10-fold from 0.4% on June 15, to today’s test positivity rate of 4.1%. Of the two new deaths reported today, one person that passed away was over the age of 80 and one person who passed was between the ages of 65 and 79. The number of cases and deaths likely reflect reporting delays over the weekend. To date, Public Health identified 1,269,090 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County and a total of 24,585 deaths.

Public Health said the county continues to see alarming trends of increased community spread. As of July 9, 2021, the 7-day daily average case rate is 8.2 per 100,000, up from 7.1, indicating sustained and increased community transmission. This number will continue to increase with each day that the number of cases reported is higher than the previous day. Cases are highest and rising the fastest in adults age 18 to 49 years old. Of the new cases reported by Public Health today, 71% are among adults 18 to 49 years old. There are 452 people with COVID-19 currently hospitalized; a doubling from the 216 hospitalizations reported a month ago. Today’s test positivity rate is 3.8%. In early June, test positivity was near 0.4%.

Monday COVID-19 Roundup: County Sees Increase in COVID-19 Outbreaks; 28,578 Total SCV Cases Uploaded: , Monday, Jul 12, 2021 By Press Release On Monday, Los Angeles County Public Health officials confirmed one new death and 1,059 new cases of COVID-19 countywide, with 28,578 total cases in the Santa Clarita Valley. In addition, Public Health reported it is currently investigating 55 ongoing outbreaks which is a 25% increase from the 44 ongoing outbreak investigations reported a month ago. While the increase in outbreak investigations is concerning, Public Health notes the number of outbreaks is still much lower than the 1,130 outbreak investigations that were reported in mid-February. Of the outbreak investigations reported today, 20% are related to outbreaks in non-healthcare and non-residential workplaces.
