Hill County awarded federal funds for emergency food and shelter programs
Press release Hill County has been chosen to receive Phase 38 award of $4,527 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county. The selection was made by a National Board that is chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and consists of representatives from the Salvation Army; American Red Cross; United Jewish Communities; Catholic Charities, USA; National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U.S.A.; and, United Way of America which will provide the administrative staff and function as fiscal agent. The Board was charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high need areas around the country.
HRDC s Christmas food baskets see huge demand during pandemic

District 4 Human Resources and Development Council’s Christmas food baskets appear to have been as successful as their Thanksgiving baskets, with both seeing massively increased demand amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Food Bank Director Alma Garcia said HRDC would, in a normal year, hand out food baskets for either Thanksgiving or Christmas and would usually serve 30 to 40 families. However, she said, this year, thanks to funds including from the CARES Act, they were able to do both and served 265 families in total with Christmas seeing slightly more demand than Thanksgiving.

A huge blessing for Mission Residents Viola and Rodolfo Ramos was packed inside a small envelope on Wednesday.
The Ramos family lost their home in a fire earlier this year, leaving the couple, their two sons, granddaughter and grandkids without a home.
With the help of The RGV National Hispanic Professional Organization, they were able to raise over $4,000 to help the Ramos family. This is all going to go towards the house to build it backup, Viola Ramos said. All the hard work that we put into building it and for that to happen and now this blessing.
