NEW BEDFORD Alma del Mar starts the new year with bright news, as the design for the new Frederick Douglass Campus has been announced.
A new, two-level, 52,000-square-foot building is currently under construction on a four-acre lot in the North End off Church Street. With the steel framework arriving over winter break, director of development Becca Kurie is beaming with excitement. With the mild winter, the team has been able to push forward, she said. We re full steam ahead.
According to volunteer facilities adviser Ed Haddad, most of the foundation has been poured and steel framework will be complete within the next six to eight weeks. Then the steel siding will be installed, with a mixture of steel and wooden skin as the façade. Haddad said the stained cedar will soften the look in comparison to an all-steel exterior.
Although school districts are following different learning models, administrations across Greater New Bedford agree that this year has been one of the most challenging in their career.
As COVID-19 rapidly spread across the country, schools quickly adapted to a new learning environment. Virtual, online, remote, distance learning students across the nation were logging onto their computers and accessing lessons from the comfort of their homes.
Education did not surrender to the pandemic. Everyone took the responsibility of powering through each day and provided a supportive environment. Although 2020 has been full of challenges, our NBPS team has persevered, taken the initiative, been compassionate and has demonstrated character to meet these challenges, said NBPS Superintendent Thomas Anderson in a statement. I must express my deep appreciation for their extra efforts in navigating this year that has been like none before it.
MONTEREY â As 2020 comes to a close, there have been a lot of lessons learned and much to look forward to in the new year â especially when it comes to travel.
Milestone anniversaries, innovative outdoor spa treatments, hotel renovations and more will create new and unforgettable ways for residents and visitors to grab their moment and explore Monterey County. Whether road tripping along the scenic California coast or taking advantage of new direct flight offerings, including Alaska Airlines daily nonstop service between Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and the Monterey Regional Airport beginning in February, the Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau has curated a list of new experiences coming in 2021:
