Variety to Honor Glenn Close With Creative Impact in Acting Award at 10 Directors to Watch Virtual Event

Variety has announced it will be giving its Creative Impact in Acting Award to Glenn Close as part of their virtual 10 Directors to Watch and Creative Impact Awards event with the Palm Springs International Film Society on Feb. 26 at 10 a.m. PT.
As previously announced, Steve McQueen will be receiving the Creative Impact in Directing Award at the event. Close recently co-starred in the Netflix drama “Hillbilly Elegy” and has received nominations for a Golden Globe, SAG Award and Critics Choice Award for her portrayal of MaMaw in the film.
Andra Day will be the recipient of the Breakthrough Performance Award for
The United States vs. Billie Holiday.
“Few jazz vocalists are more beloved than Billie Holiday, and Andra Day brings Holiday and her iconic voice back to life through a sympathetic and nuanced portrayal that sheds new light on the U.S. government’s role in seeking to muzzle a homegrown legend,” said Festival Chairman Harold Matzner. “In her impressive feature film debut as an actress and her first leading role, it is our honor to present the Breakthrough Performance Award to Andra Day.”
Past recipients of the Breakthrough Performance Award include Mahershala Ali, Mary J. Blige, Marion Cotillard, Cynthia Erivo, Jennifer Hudson, Felicity Huffman, Brie Larson, Rami Malek, Lupita Nyong’o, David Oyelowo, Rosamund Pike and Jeremy Renner. In the years they were honored, Ali, Cotillard, Hudson, Larson, Malek and Nyong’o went on to receive Academy Awards, while Blige, Erivo, Huffman, Pike and Renner re

Around this time of year organizers would be gearing up for one of the Coachella Valley s most anticipated events, The Palm Springs International Film Festival. The event is known to attract some of Hollywood s most prominent A-listers. To name a few, Jennifer Lopez, Adam Driver and Antonio Banderas were among those to attend the festival in 2020.
In November organizers announced its cancellation for 2021, adding to the long list of shuttered events in the Coachella Valley from the coronavirus pandemic. But it s not just the events themselves that are losing out. Cancellations are trickling down to other industries that usually bank on this time of year.
