Improvements to Lake Drive Park will cost less than expected after town officials agreed to slash spending on portions of the project.
Director of Public Works Paul Brazil and his staff trimmed about $600,000 from the estimated cost of the project by switching from pavers to asphalt for resurfacing the adjacent Town Marina parking lot, reducing the project s contingency fund to less than 10 percent and negotiating an additional $32,000 in cost reductions.

Work on the Town Marina renovation project is progressing smoothly with no delays, Director of Public Works Paul Brazil told the Town Council last week.
The $38 million project, in which all facilities will be upgraded, is expected to be completed this fall, Brazil said.
Work includes the expansion of 84 slips to allow larger boats, replacing stationary docks with floating docks, adding a fourth dock at the north end of the marina, and installing a new security system. Everything s going well, Brazil said. There are no surprises, and no bad news.
Demolition of the old marina, which was built in the 1940s and most recently renovated in 1998, is 100 percent complete, Brazil told the council at its virtual meeting on Feb. 9.
