Less than a week after the Palestinian Authority president expelled Nasser al-Qudwa from the Fatah party, the retribution continues
Less than a week after Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas expelled senior Fatah official Nasser al-Qudwa from the party, Abbas has piled more punitive decisions on him.
Qudwa told journalists during a Zoom briefing on Monday that the 86-year-old Abbas, who also heads the Fatah movement, ordered a stop to financial support to the Yasser Arafat Foundation, which Qudwa heads. Abbas has demanded a separation between Qudwa’s political stance and political statements on one hand, and the running of the Yasser Arafat Foundation on the other hand.

Dr. Nasser al-Qudwa announced that he will field an independent list of candidates for May’s legislative elections
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas expelled a senior Fatah party official for his decision to field an independent list of candidates in upcoming Palestinian legislative elections, another sign of the internal chaos, turmoil and division inside the ruling movement.
Dr. Nasser al-Qudwa, 67, has been at odds with Abbas’ policies for some time. Qudwa announced last week the formation of the Palestinian Democratic National Forum, which includes many academic, economic and political figures from across the ideological spectrum, and announced that the forum is preparing a list of candidates run in legislative elections slated for May 22.
