Opposition Senator Leila M. de Lima lauded the residents of Palawan for the result of the recently concluded plebiscite on the ratification of Republic Act (RA) No. 11259, intending to divide the province of Palawan into three separate provinces.
De Lima, a staunch social justice and human rights champion, said the praiseworthy move of Palaweños is a beacon of democracy in the country and a strong reminder of the importance of valuing and participating in the democratic process. The Provincial Board of Canvassers proclaimed the result of the plebiscite on Tuesday, March 16.
“On the basis of the foregoing, we hereby proclaim to ratify the division of the province of palawan pursuant to Republic Act 11259 was rejected and disapproved on the basis of the votes cast in the province of Palawan on March 13, 2021,” the PBOC said.
Based on the statement of votes by municipality, the “no” votes won in 19 municipalities namely: Narra, Brooke’s Point, El Nido, Aborlan, Sofronio Espanola, San Vicente, Tagaytay, Roxas, Balabac, Quezon, Dumaran, Araceli, Linapacan, Coron, Busuanga, Cuyo, Agutaya, Magsaysay The three municipalities that voted “yes” to the division of Palawan were Rizal, Bataraza and Culion.
Quezon City reimposes liquor ban, closure of gyms, internet cafes
