At the time of independence, Khan of Kalat-the largest of the four principalities of Balochistan, wanted to cede to the Indian Union but Jinnah’s treachery resulted in its merger with Pakistan. Balochis have been fighting since then for their freedom from Pakistan.
Pakistan never considered Balochistan as its own, rather treated it as a colony. Locals have revolted against the exploitation of its natural resources but Pakistan resorts to unspeakable repression. That has alienated the masses and inflamed the freedom struggle further.
