FA Cup shocks may be fairly commonplace in the men’s game but while giant-killing acts are still rare in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup, Town Women will be looking to register their very own upset this weekend.
Ipswich Town Women secured a historic place in the quarter-finals of the Women’s FA Cup by beating fellow FA Women’s National League Southern Premier side Southampton on penalties following a tightly-contested tie at the Goldstar Ground which had ended 1-1 after extra-time, Saints goalkeeper Kayla Rendell having scored a sensational last-gasp equaliser after Anna Grey had put the Tractor Girls in front.
Abbie Lafayette scored in the opening minute and Paige Peake added a second 11 minutes after half-time as Ipswich Town Women beat Crawley Wasps 2-0 at the Camping World Community Stadium this afternoon.
ITFC Women bounced back from their 10-0 weekend FA Cup defeat at Manchester City by thrashing local rivals Norwich City by the same scoreline in FAWNL Division One South East at Plantation Park this evening.
