This morning (June 26, 2022) saw a historic moment in Bangladesh's road communication as the much-awaited Padma Bridge opened to traffic. Long lines of cars were seen waiting to cross it.
The government has urged all to pay toll to cross the newly opened Padma Bridge. "All citizens have to pay toll set by the government, for crossing the Padma Bridge," the Cabinet Division said in a notification issued today (June 26, 2022).
Soon after one youth was arrested, a video of another youth removing nuts and bolts of the railing of Padma Bridge has been making rounds on social media.
Rafiq Islam (45) works at an electric shop in Dhaka. His village home is in Angaria union of Shariatpur Sadar upazila. He bought the first bus ticket from Shariatpur to cross the Padma Bridge and became a part of the nation's road communication history.
