THE army’s field hospital in Kepala Batas, Penang, will be fully operational by tomorrow, said Armed Forces Health Services division director-general Lt-Jen Datuk Dr Zulkeffeli Mat Jusoh.
He said the modular 24-bed field hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) which was set up near Kepala Batas Hospital will have to complete its dry run first before being vetted by the Fire and Rescue Department for approval.
“We must first test the effectiveness of the field hospital, ” said Lt-Jen Dr Zulkeffeli in a press conference at the field hospital yesterday.

KEPALA BATAS: The army expects the modular 27-bed field intensive care unit (ICU) it is setting up at Kepala Batas Hospital to be operational by Saturday (May 22).
The field ICU is being set up by the Kluang Medical Second Battalion.
Commanding officer Lt-Col Dr Mohd Zamri Deraman said his unit, which is based in Kluang, was ordered to help Kepala Batas Hospital increase ICU beds for Covid-19 patients. We are using a modular concept by bringing in four containers which will be used to place 12 ICU beds.

KOTA BARU, May 3 The capacity of the Covid-19 Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRCs) and hospital facilities in Kelantan are now at a critical level due to the rising number of daily Covid-19 cases that have reached three digits over the past two weeks.
Kelantan Local Government, Housing and Health Committee chairman Dr Izani Husin said the six existing PKRCs in the state could not accommodate the rising number of Covid-19 patients.

The intensive care units (ICUs) in Kelantan are almost at capacity, forcing the state government to set up a field hospital and a new Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC).
The field hospital will be set up in Padang Perdana, Kota Bharu, while the new PKRC will be in the Kelantan Trade Centre. Both facilities are within walking distance of the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital.
