(KNSI) – A recent COVID-19 vaccine equity report from the Minnesota Department of Health shows that disparities still exist between racial groups and social vulnerability groups when it comes to getting vaccinated. However, some improvements have been made this summer.
In May, the Minnesota Department of Health gave vaccine providers a goal of administering 40 percent of their COVID vaccine doses to people who live in high social vulnerability index areas ZIP codes where Minnesotans are more likely to face barriers that make it harder for them to access the vaccine and take other COVID-19 precaution measures. The SVI quartiles categorize areas of higher and lower social vulnerability based on residents’ socioeconomic status, household compositions and disability, minority status and language and housing type and transportation.
