In order to keep Aerolineas Argentinas and Austral afloat, the Argentinian Government invested US$527 million between January and November 2020. This amount is the largest invested since 2015, according to data provided by the State airlines.

Aerolineas Argentinas was founded on December 7, 1950. The former Argentinian president, Juan Domingo Perón, signed a decree and merged four existing airlines: ALFA, FAMA, Zonda, and Aeroposta.
Over its history, Aerolineas was a private company at times. But, when it had a crisis between 2001 and 2008, the Argentinian Government acquired Aerolineas to keep it flying.

Argentina receives second batch of Russia s Sputnik V vaccines
Buenos Aires, Jan 16 (Prensa Latina) A second flight from Moscow arrived in Argentina on Saturday with 300,000 doses of the Sputnik V vaccine to continue the Covid-19 vaccination program. On a special non-stop flight of the flag carrier Aerolineas Argentinas, Flight AR1601 arrived in Buenos Aires from the Sheremetyevo International Airport, in Moscow, and was welcomed by Pablo Ceriani, president of the state-owned Aerolineas Argentinas, and the president of the Argentinean Postal Service, Vanesa Piesciorovski.
At a press briefing at the Minister Pistarini International Airport, commonly known as Ezeiza International Airport, Ceriani highlighted the success of the operation and thanked President Alberto Fernandez for choosing the country s flag carrier for this mission.
