Due to the strong tidal effects of supermoon, the seawater at Panje has managed to cross over the man-made bunds that were blocking the water movement
NAVI MUMBAI: The Supermoon phenomenon that occurred early this week has managed to do a tiny super-miracle at the parched Panje wetland, which the environmentalists were quite literally begging the government officials to restore.
Due to the strong tidal effects of supermoon, the seawater at Panje has managed to cross over the man-made bunds that were blocking the water movement. As the tidal water gushed through, several migratory birds also immediately started coming into Panje in the last two days.
A member of the Paaramparik Machhimar Bachao Kruti Samiti, while speaking to a media house said that the JNPT deputy chairman also spoke to the agitators and assured them that a solution would be found in connection with their problem. A high-level meeting in regards to the matter has also been scheduled for next Thursday.
However, he further said that the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister had given orders after the last protests were staged but JNPT did not take any actions at all. It was also said the agitators are only demanding what the government had earlier decided to allot to them - which was a 17 acre land for the 256 dispatched families.
NAVI MUMBAI: Local environmentalists have stated that as per Right to Information Act (RTI) records, there is no proper Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) clearance to build the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) special economic zone (SEZ) project at the port area in Maharashtra s Navi Mumbai.
The greens have thus asked the state environment department to take remedial steps to restore the coastal biodiversity. As per records of the MCZMA, the information (that) pertaining to CRZ clearance to JNPT SEZ for implementing the SEZ project in Uran taluka of Raigad district is not available. This communique from the environment department was shared in response to our RTI application, said BN Kumar of NatConnect Foundation.
