Vizianagaram (Andhra Pradesh) [India], January 7 (ANI): Heavy police deployment was made at Ramatheertham in Andhra Pradesh s Vizianagaram district on Thursday to quell possible protests in connection with the desecration of idols in the state.
Over the last few days, several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders including General Secretary P Vishnuvardhan Reddy, party president Somu Veerraj, Nagothu Ramesh, Bhanuprakash Reddy and Member of Parliament GVL Narasimha Rao were detained by the police while they were protesting.
On Monday, state Endowments Minister Vellampalli Srinivasa Rao had urged BJP leaders to withdraw their proposed rally at Ramateertham as an investigation was underway to look into the incident and announced that a new idol would be installed there.

Vizianagaram (Andhra Pradesh) [India], January 7 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) general secretary P Vishnuvardhan Reddy was admitted to hospital on Thursday after a scuffle with police when he attempted to cross barricades to reach the Ramateertham temple.
When the police obstructed him, the BJP leader fell to the ground, suffered injuries and felt suffocated. He was taken to the Vizianagaram Maharaja Government Hospital and his condition is stable. The doctors decided to send him to the Visakhapatnam hospital for better treatment.

Andhra govt forms communal harmony committees in view of desecration of idols ANI | Updated: Jan 08, 2021 06:19 IST
Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) [India], January 8 (ANI): In light of the recent attacks on idols in temples across the state, the Andhra Pradesh government on Thursday formed a state-level communal harmony committee and district level communal harmony committees, informed state Chief Secretary Adityanath Das.
The Chief Secretary and Director-General of Police of the state will be chairman and vice chairman of the state-level committee and representatives from all religions will be members, along with Principal Secretaries of home, endowments, and minority welfare.
The district-level committees will be headed by district collectors and superintendents of police (SPs).
