Community Blood Center of the Ozarks, the sole supplier of blood and plasma to patients at more than 40 area health care facilities, is partnering with Gravette first responders in presenting the second annual Boots and Badges Blood Drive on Aug. 27.

Many area walkers and runners were delighted about the return of the Gravette Day 5K to this year's Gravette Day festivities, and participants came from throughout the area. One surprising participant was quadruple amputee Susan Hazard, of Rogers, who was a first-time entrant.

But COVID-19 is threatening to close many more small hospitals in less populated regions, threatening the quality of care for millions of Americans.  A recent report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office concluded that more than a quarter of rural hospitals faced significant financial distress even before the pandemic, forcing them to potentially pull back on offering health care services or even to close down. Executives at rural hospitals that have managed to stayed afloat since the coronavirus struck credit their survival to federal support and other financial aid that has enabled them to continue operating.

THE BENTON COUNTY PROSECUTOR S OFFICE IS INVESTIGATING. IN A PROBABLE CAUSE REPORT, JEFFREY OTTS ADMITTED TO police that he was DRIVING THROUGH NEIGHBORHOODS AND APPROACHING GROUPS OF GIRLS UNDER 10 YEARS OLD. HE TOLD POLICE THAT HE EXPOSED HIS GENITALS TO children AND MADE INAPPROPRIATE COMMENTS TO THEM.
