LG Polls: Oyo APC sues governor, electoral commission
The local government election is holding on Saturday without the APC.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to court over its exclusion from the forthcoming local government elections in the state.
Also joined in the suit was the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC).
The Oyo State Caretaker Chairman of APC, Akin Oke, confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday in Ibadan.
Mr Oke said the APC, through its lawyers, had prepared the originating processes and forwarded same to the state’s Chief Judge.

Makinde had on assumption of office in 2019 sacked the elected local government chairmen and councillors on the platform of APC, a year into their tenure. The sacked chairmen and councillors had approached the court to challenge the dissolution, which the Supreme Court ruled in their favour on May 7, 2021

After two years, Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo state, sacked all the local government chairpersons in the state and appointed caretaker chairmen, the Supreme court, Friday declared the dissolution of the local government councils as illegal.
The apex court in its ruling today also declared the replacement of the council chairman with caretaker committees as unlawful.
Reacting to the ruling, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare hailed the judgment, saying that the judgement was a landmark achievement in the present government’s hard work to deepen democracy at the grassroots.
The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare says Friday’s judgment by the Supreme Court declaring the sack of elected local governments executives in Oyo State by the state Governor, Mr. Seyi Makinde as “null and void” is a landmark achievement in the present government’s deliberate hard work to deepen democracy at the grassroots.
Mr. Dare noted that with the “ unsparing, unequivocal and unambiguous’’ judgment by the highest court in the land, it has now become crystal clear that no state government has the power to sack an elected council chairman or councilor, as correctly envisioned by President Muhammadu Buhari.
