The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Justice Abubakar Malami (SAN) had earlier directed the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde to reverse himself over the dissolution of local government administration in the state. The directive was contained in a letter to the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Oyo State, Prof. Oyewo Oyelowo dated 14 January 2020.

Ijaye farmers urge Makinde to dislodge herdsmen from land

• To station counsel at police command for speedy judicial process Farmers in Ijaye, Akinyele Local Council of Oyo, yesterday, staged a protest against continuous destruction of their farmlands and crops by Fulani herdsmen in the area. The farmers, who gathered at the Governor’s Office Secretariat, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, with various placards and were received by the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters, Sunday Odukoya, urged the governor to dislodge Fulani herdsmen from their land. MEANWHILE, the Oyo State Government has said that it is seeking the support of the state police command in training the Amotekun Corps to enhance capacity.

S'West Govs Push for Establishment of Development Commission

James Sowole in Akure Governors of the six states in the South-west have endorsed the recommendation of a committee they set up for the establishment of the South-west Development Commission (SWDC). The Technical Committee, set up towards the realisation of the commission, while submitting a memorandum for the establishment of the body to the Ondo State Governor and Chairman of the South-west Governors‘ Forum, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), urged the governors to use their political clout to ensure the passage of a bill to give a legal backing to the reification of the idea. Already, the Senate has passed the bill, sponsored by a former Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and introduced in November 2019, for second reading.

South West governors push for development commission On By Dayo Johnson Akure The Chairman of the South West Governors Forum, Rotimi Akeredolu has received the memorandum for the establishment of the South West Development Commission. It was presented to the Ondo state governor by the Chairman of Technical Committee and Chief of Staff to the Osun state governor, Dr. Charles Diji Akinola. The committee has the Attorney-Generals and  Justice Commissioners and one other nominated person each from the six states of the South West.
