Oyate Health aiming to vaccinate 1,500 tribal members by the end of February

KNBN NewsCenter1 February 17, 2021 RAPID CITY, S.D. Over the next two weeks, two tribal healthcare entities – Great Plains Tribal Leaders Health Board and the Oyate Health Center – will reallocate staff to their 725 N. LaCrosse St. location to begin Phase 2 of vaccine distribution. Mass distribution of the vaccine began Feb. 16 and will end on Feb. 23. The organizations are aiming to vaccinate 1500 patients by the end of the month. In a news release, Great Plains Tribal Leaders Health Board President and CEO Jerilyn Church said, “At this time, we have the opportunity to provide life-saving vaccines to a large number of our community. We want to encourage all of our relatives who use the Oyate Health Center as their care provider to sign up to receive one. For those who have questions about the vaccine or who have hesitancy, we encourage them to access the resources we have made available on our social media pages and our website.”

Oyate Health Center hosting mass testing for COVID-19 December 24, 2020 RAPID CITY, S.D. Another mass COVID-19 testing will take place courtesy of Oyate Health and the Great Plains Tribal Leadership Health Board. Although cases in the state have been on a downward trend, the Health Board feels it’s a good time for another round of testing. The goal is to further track the progress of the virus, and possibly slow its spread, so it will host a mass testing from  8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., December 28 through 31, free of charge. Oyate Health will be able to provide tests results on-site. Any follow up will have to be done with the person’s health care provider.
