A SMALL number of students did not evacuate their Oxford accommodation when a fire broke out until firefighters told them to. The blaze happened at around 1.30am yesterday in a shared kitchen at student halls of residence on Woodstock Road. Fire crews from Rewley Road station scrambled to the scene when they were called to a smoke alarm at the site. On arrival, the crew discovered a small fire in the kitchen caused by an unattended pan left on an electric hob. The pan was found to have reached temperatures well over 400°C causing a small fire within the extractor fan and smoke logging throughout the floor.
