Rally in Oxford to mark one year since George Floydâs death ANTI-RACISM activists will hold a rally in Oxford today to mark one year since the world was shocked by images of the murder of George Floyd. Rhodes Must Fall, Extinction Rebellion and CWU South Central are only some of the groups taking part in the 5.30pm action in Bonn Square. The anniversary comes just weeks after Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin, was convicted by a jury for the murder of the black man. Oxford Stand Up to Racism, which is one of the groups behind the event, explained that demonstrators will demand action over racism, including the removal of the Rhodes statue from its position in the High Street.
THIS afternoon, anti-racism activists met in the centre of Oxford to mark the one-year anniversary since George Floyd was murdered. Rhodes Must Fall and Oxford Stand Up to Racism were just two of the groups who attended the rally.
Anti-racism protestors meet outside Bonn Square today. Activists met at Bonn Square to demand action over racism - a number of protestors gave testimonies about racism they had experienced within the UK and read out the names of those believed to be victims of police brutality.
Anti-racism activists take the knee. The group of protestors then marched from Bonn Square, down Queen Street, to the High Street - where the controversial statue of Cecil Rhodes is placed on top of Oriel College.
