In the recent past, I have had to be drawn into a number of media interviews on the desirability of zoning political offices and the agitations for a president of Igbo extraction in 2023. Over the weekend, I spoke on this issue on Democracy Today on the Africa Independent Television and was also on The Podium, the current affairs programme of Love 104.5 FM, Abuja on Monday, March 29, 2021. As a political scientist and prominent member of Nigeria’s civil society I believe strongly in equity, justice and fair-play. I am also a strong advocate of inclusive governance.

Facebook posts shared thousands of times claim that Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed told the BBC in 2014 that his great-grandson will be “back on a camel”, implying that the wealthy emirate s development is diminishing. The claim is false: Sheikh Mohammed did not make such comments in the interview, where he said he aimed for Dubai to become “number one”. A similar quote has previously been attributed to Saudi politician Ahmed Zaki Yamani and the sheikh’s father Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
The claim was posted to Facebook by a Fiji-based user here. The post has been shared more than 6,000 times.

Elana Yaron Fishbein started an organization called
“No Left Turn in Education” to help parents take the lead in the education of their children and to show people who oppose critical race theory that they have allies. Among its slogans is
“education, not indoctrination.” In only a few months since its beginning in August 2020, her Facebook group grew dramatically. Today, her group has chapters in 18 states.
“Many parents say ‘how can you be against it (CRT)?’ until you open it and see what’s in it. It’s the exact opposite [of what it says,]” said Fishbein to The Christian Post.
